Asian Cultural Activities at Rutgers Day

There’s no need to travel across the globe to experience the traditions and culture of Asia — just come to Rutgers Day.

The Confucius Institute will be hosting a program on the College Avenue Campus called “Chinese Opera For Kids,” where visitors will have the chance to get a taste of what Chinese opera is all about. This event grabbed my attention right away because visitors of all ages can enjoy this experience. Activities include face painting, craft making, a stage costume showcase, and Chinese musical instruments. You will even get to pose for your very own photo dressed in an opera costume.

Students will also be on hand on College Avenue to help visitors of all ages learn how to play the ancient Japanese game of Go. It only takes minutes to learn but a lifetime to master. Check out this video for more details:

Are you heading to Cook Campus to enjoy Ag Field Day and the New Jersey Folk Festival? The Anime and Japanese Environmental Society is giving visitors a chance to put their fishing skills to the test. If you can catch a fish with a thin paper net before it breaks, you will be able to take the fish home as your prize.

See you all on April 30.
